Signs of Substance Abuse in Adults
- Memory lapses following drug or alcohol use
- Isolation and being withdrawn and suspicious of others
- Breaking promises and commitments
- Maintaining and/or hiding a supply of alcohol or drugs
- Making excuses for tardiness or poor performance at work
- Trouble sleeping and/or a lack of motivation
- Loss of interest in work, school, family activities, and things they used to enjoy
- Drinking or using drugs until falling asleep
- Mood or personality changes while under the influence
- Use of alcohol or drugs despite harmful consequences
- Showing feelings of anger, irritability, and guilt
